Maple, reed seat
The genesis for this chair was a desire to make something simple in design and playful in appearance. The desire for simplicity lead me to turned legs with straight tapers. I decided to experiment with a new technique in toned lacquer finishing for the playful aspect. Toned lacquer is translucent so one can see the natural beauty of the wood grain in the “brick style” construction of the colored back rest. I originally made a set of 4 chairs all in different sherbet colors.
