Dan Faia
Dan Faia is a professional woodcarver, furnituremaker, chairmaker, and educator. He currently operates a woodworking studio and small group workshop program in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. When Dan isn’t teaching or working on custom commissions or period reproductions, he is usually busy in his shop pursuing his passion for traditional woodcarving. His work is displayed in private and public collections. In recognition of his dedication to the art and legacy of period furniture, Dan was named the 2023 recipient of the Cartouche Award by the Society of American Period Furniture Makers (SAPFM).
A 1994 graduate of a two-year cabinet and furniture making program, Dan continued his early training while working alongside master craftsmen in the fields of furniture making, chair making, furniture repair & restoration, and preservation carpentry. He has taught extensively at various woodworking schools throughout New England, and served as department head of a full-time cabinet and furniture making program from 2010-2023.
Dan enjoys sharing information, and has published numerous articles in Fine Woodworking and other digital and print media. He also produced a video workshop series on measuring and reproducing a Queen Anne chair for Fine Woodworking. In addition, Dan has been a guest on Fine Woodworking’s Shop Talk Live podcast and the Modern Woodworkers Association podcast.
Dan is a member of the NH Furniture Masters (NHFM), Guild of NH Woodworkers (GNHW), and SAPFM. He has participated in demonstrations, presentations, and exhibits for organizations such as Colonial Williamsburg, Concord Museum, Fine Woodworking, Fruitlands Museum, GNHW, Museum of Fine Arts-Boston, NHFM, NH Preservation Alliance, Old State House-Boston, Old Sturbridge Village, SAPFM, Strawbery Banke, The Furniture Society, and The Old Manse.
