PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – To post or not to post?  As an artist, how does one navigate social media and what are the desired results?  The Furniture Masters faced these questions and turned to an expert, Stephanie McLaughlin, Savoir Faire Marketing Communications, Manchester, N.H., to help them map out a plan.  One year and 8,500+ Instagram followers later they are reaping the results and have invited McLaughlin to share her knowledge with others in the art and collecting community.

Joining McLaughlin, will be Tim Coleman, Furniture Master from Shelburne, Mass.  Coleman documented his latest work, Arabesque, on Instagram and watched his followers grow to 7,000+.  What will this documentation and added exposure mean to the value of Arabesque when it hits the auction block at 3S on September 25?

Exploring that equation will be Jonathan Francis, Bien Fait Decorative Arts Valuation Services, Providence, R.I., who is navigating unchartered territory.  In the past, value for an owner has come from measurable criteria.  Francis will now factor in the social media component which creates an exciting new dimension to the art of appraisal.

The Instagram post of today may create a unique provenance which will transfer from an artist to a future owner and heirs in perpetuity.  Elise Salek of Sulloway & Hollis, P.L.L.C., Concord, N.H., will tackle documentation and valuation from the estate planning angle.  Salek will illustrate how the artist and collector can map out a future strategy for artwork to ensure the value remains secure.

Following the presentations, there will be a panel discussion with the presenters.
